Huge header images are a small pet peeve of mine.
Or, rather, they are a huge pet peeve of mine.
From a reader point of view, I do not want to see a picture of your lovely kitty cat if it means that I have to scroll down below the fold to even begin to read your content.
But I especially cringe from a fellow bloggers point of view.
You are wasting such valuable real estate, especially if you plan to monetize your blog.
And no, I am not just picking on you.
I just took a look at my own blogs and made the header images even smaller.
(Which caused other header problems but that is a story for another day! Lol. )
If you are having trouble (or just plan ol’ don’t know how) shrinking your image, the handy dandy program that I used is picnik.com.
Simply upload an image. Click the resize tab. Adjust to your specific specifications.
Easy enough, right?
For those of you with the gigantic header image, may I ask why?

I used to have a big header, but everyone loved the picture! I changed my header though, b/c some companies won't consider you for reviews, etc. with a header that's larger than 4 inches. Thanks for stopping by the S&R weekend hop!

Yes, picking a header size can be daunting but not overly complicated if you just use picnik.com or even the Paint program that comes with most Window installations. Having a good header makes you appear to be more professional and less of a hobby blogger.

Over sized headers are simply not suitable for a site. proper proportion should always be maintained.
