My Blogging Life 5.11.16 thru 5.15.16

I know, I know…based on the frequency lack of posts of my daily blogging life, you would think that I have done absolutely nothing over the last 5 days.

You would (partially) right.

On Wednesday, I drove to pick up my middle kid from his college which is about 45 minutes to an hour away so that was about 3 hours out of my day gone bye-bye.

So, I just finished up my Facebook blogging group work and called it a day.

Because the very next day, I drove to pick up my oldest from college which is about 3 hours away.

That’s a lot of driving…for me…who hardly even drives 3 hours a week.

Boy, was I wiped and I took the rest of that day and part of the Friday off too. Lol.

Which, of course, meant that I had over 450 messages from my Facebook groups to slug through.

Since I was still feeling a bit groggy, I mostly concentrated on that.

I am sure that any posts that I would have attempted to write would have been pure gibberish.

Saturday, yet another busy kid related day as I was on the Parent Committee and we put on a nice spread celebrating the end of the yearly program and congratulating all of the graduating seniors.

All of this is to say that as far as blogging is concerned, I haven’t done squat.

But the most important lesson that I learned is that I really need to start writing and scheduling blogs posts in advance including all of the social media broadcasting.

Which brings us to this fine Sunday morning with a buttload of stuff to do and my mind spinning on which way to go.

I was super-stoked to get a comment thanking me for writing my blogging life posts so, yeah, I guess I’ll continue them. (I mean, I was seriously, seriously stoked about this non-solicited comment! Seriously!!! Lol. I don’t think I can emphasis how I lost all of my cool points doing a happy dance about this one simple comment.)

8:00 a.m.

My friend called me at 6 to ask if I wanted to go to church but I declined and watched via the internet instead.

The first thing that I tackled was to load up my Buffer with posts. Then I started on knocking out my Facebook group work as those are relatively easy to do whilst getting my church on.

1:00 p.m.

Church and Facebook groups complete. Yay!

I listened to a webinar on Facebook groups (seemed timely).

3:00 p.m.

Realized that this blog was acting wonky again. I can’t link, open my text editor, or use anything other than Publish to schedule the post.. Probably because the website updated to the new wordpress again even though I turned it off on my hosting company. Grr

So, I went back to Dreamhost and rolled back the backup copy to 2 weeks. I found out that the change was just in the notification of whether it updated or not rather than notification that an update was available and then I can decide if I want to update or not.

So, I went on the hunt to find out how to stop the auto-updates. I wish that WordPress just offered this as most of the suggestions were adding code to this, that, or the other. Completely not a language that I speak.

Eventually, I found talk of plugins (duh!!!) that could so it for me. I went with Shield WordPress Security (yes, it is free. Did you really need to ask?? Lol.) It also comes with a host of other goodies that I will be checking out later. If I read it correctly, it was a simple one-click to deactivate automatic WordPress updates so I should be good to go.

I do know that as I type this, all of my blogging functions are working again so Yay!!

4:30 p.m.

Checking another small but important detail off of my to-do list, I uploaded and assigned cover images to my Pinterest boards. Yeah, yeah, yeah…all of those posts on branding that are popping up all over the place lately are starting to sink in…

I also organized my boards in my personal order of importance. On our Amablogger Tribe board, I go in daily and delete under-performing pins from the bottom because of the new Pinterest algorithm of favoring boards with high share rates.

To wrap up my Pinterest plan of the day, I added a few pins to my Tailwind account for repinning. I went with scheduling the post in 1 day optimized intervals to the many group boards to which I am a member.

5:30 p.m.

Checked my spam folder and found that some of my post links had been put in there as having a Fake IP. Well, since I know that they are me, I am pretty sure that they were not fake so I approved them. But, guess what?!?! Among the 65 spam comments, I actually found 2 more that seem legit!! Woo Hoo!!!

This lil’ blog is blowing UP!!!

Ok, not really. It was only 3 unsolicited comments…but still….Lol.

5:45 p.m.

Played with the positioning of my center adsense ad. Settled on it showing up right before the last paragraph. I wish there was the ability to have it show up right after the last paragraph.

Checked on my email subscribers. Nothing to write home about. Gain some, lost some. Open rates were low across the board.

6:00 p.m.

Wrote the goals post for my demographic blog.

7:15 p.m.

After walking the dog, I spent 45 minutes (or however long an episode of Gotham is on Netflix) applying to sponsored posts. The pickings are sooo slim. What in the world is going on???

8:00 p.m.

I pretty much eneded the night as I began it. By topping off my Buffer account so that all of the night owls can get a good dose of my posts while I sleep. I’m so sweet that way.

Speaking of sweet, sweet dreams, dear readers because this marks the end of another blogging day for me.

Be sure to leave me lots of comments. You know how stoked I get about ’em!
